Child Counselling

"There is in every child at every stage a new miracle of vigorous unfolding." ~ Erik Erikson

Our cultural, spiritual and psychological identities are rooted in how we connect to others; the family is a nuanced and multi-layered system where we learn how to empathize, communicate, collaborate, trust, and respect others. Thus, how we interact with our family influences how we connect to the world around us.

Prior to booking a Child’s Counselling session, it is required for a parent to book an initial parenting session beforehand without the child present.

A parent or guardian must be present while a child is in session. You may wait in the waiting area while the session is conducted, however you must remain on the premises. In the event that a parent should leave a minor in the custody of Columbia River Counselling and refuse to collect their child, the appropriate authorities will be notified and the parent will be billed by the hour until appropriate arrangements have been made to ensure the child has a safe place to go.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN their FIRST APPOINTMENT:

The initial appointment with your child will be a chance for them to meet with their therapist, and get a feel for how they will interact together. This appointment will mainly be for the two of them to meet and get comfortable being around each other, building rapport for future sessions.
